Our Story

The People of the Dawn Indigenous Friendship Centre (PDIFC) has been formally recognized as the second site of its kind on the island. This results from more than a year of planning, consultation and negotiations involving local leaders, volunteers and community members and the National Association of Friendship Centres.

PDIFC is– like all Friendship Centres across the country– a non-profit organization that delivers culturally appropriate services to Indigenous people– regardless of status– in urban communities. Every Centre is as unique as the area it serves allowing for programs and services that vary nationally based on need.

The Centre currently provides service and supports developed to assist individuals with challenges related to employment, health, education, justice and housing. Community cultural gatherings, celebrations, ceremonies, workshops and teachings are also an ongoing and integral part of the Centre’s offerings.

The Centre’s administrative offices are located at 35 Carolina Avenue in Stephenville. Large group, community events and cultural programs continue to be offered out of our St.George’s location.
